BDSM Play: Bondage

I said awhile ago that I would post my thoughts on various types of BDSM play, and I decided that I would post my first thoughts today. And that play is Bondage. Now, the art of Bondage (and, yes, it can be an art) is different for different people. There is the power exchange that is involved, and can be very pleasing to the eyes. It really depends on the ideals of the person with the ropes, who is not always the dominate partner in the exchange.

Just like most forms of BDSM, Bondage can be very deadly. Therefore, there are some rules that I think everyone who is into BDSM needs to remember, no matter how long they have been into the scene. One of those rules is that the person who is being bound should never, NEVER, be left alone. All it takes is the person rolling just right, and they can cut off their air supply. Also, some people may have other issues that are not known at the start of the scene, including allergic reactions to the rope, or some psychological issues with being bound.

Now, there are various objects that can be used in the art of Bondage. The most common is rope. The best rope to use is strong enough to keep the person bound, but can either be cut or untied as fast as possible. You also want to choose a rope that is not going to cause problems for people. Hemp is NOT a good choice for most couples, as it can easily cause abrasions on the person being bound, and there are many people who are allergic to it. Something silky and smooth not only has the advantage of normally being cheap, but can be extremely strong, PLUS, there is the sensation of the silky feeling for the person being bound.

Then there are chains. The issue with chains is that you can’t cut them, so other precautions have to be taken. Unless you are EXTREMELY knowledgeable about what you are doing, quick releases are a must. This will make it easier to get the bound out of the chains if there is a need. Now, you must also think of the weight of the chains. Unlike rope, which is light for the strength, chains are normally heavy, and can cause problems in that area.

Cling Wrap is also a common bondage tool. The issue with this is that the skin cannot “breathe”, and also will keep heat closer to the body. If you wish to use this, you will have to make sure that the person being bound will be quickly unwrapped at the slightest sign of problems, and there is water nearby for the person to drink if need be.

There are many other things that can be used for bondage play, but these are the ones I know and have used. A quick google search will bring up many others. Make sure that you know what you are doing before ANY play, but making sure that you know how to get someone unbound quickly is the best thing when dealing with Bondage.

  2. I generally do. Sometimes just a good fuck is in order, but a long bondage scene can be just as fun.
